PIKOM Showcases Innovation in Action with Tesla and Selangor Dredging

The National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) brought together the country’s digital and innovation community in a vibrant Members Get Together session held at Tesla Malaysia’s showroom in Cyberjaya, co-hosted by Selangor Dredging Berhad (SDB) yesterday.

PIKOM Chairman Adjunct Professor Alex Liew said the occasion embodied the shared drive towards sustainable innovation, digital transformation and cross-industry collaboration among Malaysia’s technology leaders, while also highlighting the role of innovative and sustainable property development in supporting a smarter, greener future.

He added that, for 39 years, PIKOM has connected and empowered Malaysia’s technology ecosystem, driving growth through collaboration, advocacy and innovation.

“As we approach our 40th anniversary in 2026, we remain as committed as ever to strengthening partnerships that will power the nation’s next wave of digital advancement,” he said.

Meanwhile, PIKOM CEO Ong Kian Yew said that ‘innovation doesn’t happen in silos’.

“Our partnership with Tesla and Selangor Dredging demonstrates the power of collaboration across sectors, one where clean energy, intelligent mobility and sustainable urban living converge to define Malaysia’s future digital economy.”

The highlight of the session was an inspiring presentation by IR. Ahmad Hadri Haris, Tesla’s Lead for Public Affairs and Business Development (Southeast Asia), who shared how Tesla is redefining innovation through its ecosystem that now spans beyond electric vehicles into sustainable energy, AI, robotics and advanced computing.

“Tesla’s mission has never been about selling cars — it’s about accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy,” he said.

Hadri shared insights on how Tesla’s evolution from the Roadster and Model S to the Model 3 and Model Y represents not just automotive innovation but a technological shift powered by data, intelligence and renewable energy. He also spoke about Tesla’s supercharger expansion across Malaysia, which now enables seamless travel from Singapore to Penang and up to Thailand, and upcoming AI-driven features like the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system, which integrates neural network learning and Tesla’s global supercomputing infrastructure to redefine road safety and autonomy.

Hadri added that Tesla is now investing in energy storage and home solar systems, aiming to help Malaysia embrace sustainable abundance where technology and energy efficiency enhance everyday life.

“Every Tesla owner is part of a global movement towards clean energy. It’s about reducing carbon emissions, improving safety and enabling smarter living through continuous innovation,” he said.

Following that, David Lee of Selangor Dredging Berhad (SDB) took the stage to share the company’s remarkable transformation from its origins in tin mining to becoming an award-winning boutique property developer renowned for design excellence and sustainable living.

He introduced two of SDB’s latest developments Senai (pic) and DaMai both exemplifying the company’s human-centred approach to design and its focus on quality, community and sustainability.

Located in the emerging township of Puchong South near to Cyberjaya, Senai is a low-density, gated community that combines contemporary architecture with eco-conscious planning. The development features two- and three-storey homes surrounded by green linear parks, family-friendly layouts, and EV-ready carports, reflecting the lifestyle of modern homeowners seeking both comfort and environmental harmony.

“We designed Senai around nature, with homes fronting green spaces and walkable paths. It’s about spacious living, sustainability, and harmony with the environment,” David said.

He also introduced DaMai, a first-of-its-kind condominium development featuring doorstep parking for every unit — a breakthrough design that merges landed home convenience with vertical living. Each unit comes with private EV charging points, earthquake-resistant construction, and panoramic views of either the KLCC skyline or lush greenery. “DaMai is built around innovation and convenience. You can drive straight to your doorstep on every floor — a feature never before seen in Malaysia,” he added.

Both projects, David emphasised, embody SDB’s long-held philosophy of “Driving Residences, Building Lifelong Relationships” — blending innovation, sustainability and craftsmanship to create meaningful homes that stand the test of time.

Adjunct Professor Alex Liew and PIKOM Deputy Chairman Alex Loh (left in pic) also welcomed several new members into the PIKOM family, including AIMS Data Centre, one of Malaysia’s leading cloud and data infrastructure providers and represented by AIMS Chief of Staff Jessie Lim, underscoring the association’s growing base of innovative companies across emerging technology sectors.

The event concluded with a networking session hosted by SDB, where attendees explored Tesla’s latest models through exclusive test drives and interacted with representatives from the property and tech sectors over light refreshments.

“This event truly reflects PIKOM’s vision of fostering collaboration across industries. Innovation today takes many forms, from cutting-edge electric mobility and smart property design to digital infrastructure that powers new possibilities,” said Adjunct Professor Alex.

“As we approach PIKOM’s 40th anniversary in 2026, our commitment remains as crystal clear as ever, that is to bring industry players together to spark innovation, drive strategy and scale new heights. It’s about aligning our collective efforts with the nation’s aspiration to build a smarter, greener and more connected Malaysia in line with our country’s AI Nation 2030 vision.”
