Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has not resigned from his Cabinet post, despite earlier speculation following his remarks about stepping down over Sabah’s revenue rights issue.
Anwar told reporters that Ewon was present at the Cabinet meeting earlier today, dismissing talk of his resignation.
“He attended the meeting,” Anwar said briefly after Friday prayers when asked about the minister’s status.
Ewon, who is also Penampang MP, had earlier stated he was prepared to resign should the federal government appeal the High Court’s ruling affirming Sabah’s right to a share of federal tax revenue collected from the state.
The court decision has been hailed as a landmark affirmation of state financial autonomy, reigniting long-standing calls in Sabah for a fairer distribution of national revenue.
