Reinventing from Scratch
Kristy recalls her decision to leave the pharmacy profession as both terrifying and necessary. The long hours, mental fatigue and lack of fulfilment had taken a toll.
“I was burnt out. I felt like I was living someone else’s version of success,” she said. “I didn’t know anything about digital work but I knew I had to take back control.”
She discovered funnel design, a niche within online marketing and saw an opportunity to apply her structured and analytical mindset in a creative way. For Kristy, the principles were familiar. In pharmacy, she followed systems and processes that led to predictable results. Funnel design, she realised, worked the same way, only this time the focus was on understanding people and crafting digital journeys that convert.
The decision to invest in herself, even with borrowed money, became her first defining moment. “I had to borrow money to start but it was the best decision I ever made. When you have very little to lose, you learn to bet on yourself. That mindset has stayed with me ever since,” she said.
Turning Risk into Reward
Kristy’s first big breakthrough came soon after completing her training. Within weeks, she earned US$6,000 online, proving that results mattered more than titles or experience. That success gave her confidence to treat freelancing not as a side hustle but as a serious business.
“The digital space rewards effort and value, not credentials,” she said. “Once you understand that, the opportunities open up.”
Still, her journey was not without challenges. She faced scepticism from family and friends who doubted the stability of her new path. Kristy believes that the diversity of her students reflects the universality of freelancing. “Age or background doesn’t matter. What matters is your willingness to learn, adapt and stay consistent,” she said.

For Kristy, success is not measured by how much people earn but by how much confidence they gain in building lives they are proud of.
“I’ve seen students who once felt invisible in their 50s and 60s rediscover purpose through freelancing,” she said. “It’s not just about making money. It’s about having dignity and control over your own choices.”
Her personal achievements mirror this philosophy. Retiring her husband remains one of her proudest milestones. “It wasn’t about proving anything to anyone,” she said. “It was about having the freedom to choose how we want to live. Freedom means being able to say no and that’s something I’ll never take for granted.”
