Hilton has unveiled Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan, a new landmark in its luxury portfolio and the brand’s second property in Shanghai. The opening marks a significant milestone, making Shanghai one of only three cities worldwide to host two Waldorf Astoria hotels.
Situated on the southern stretch of the city’s New Bund in Pudong’s Qiantan District, the hotel offers a calm counterpoint to Shanghai’s fast-paced urban rhythm. Building on the legacy of the original Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, the new property reflects the brand’s confidence in the continued growth of high-end travel in China.
Featuring 204 spacious rooms and suites, many with panoramic river views and private balconies, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan embodies the brand’s signature blend of timeless elegance and contemporary design.
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and Cheng Chung Design (CCD), the hotel takes inspiration from Shanghai’s Art Deco heritage, reimagined with a modern edge.
Signature touches, including a reinterpreted peacock motif and sail-inspired details, reflect its riverfront setting. The design language carries through to the suites, some featuring outdoor jacuzzis that offer private retreats with skyline views.
Outside its accommodations, the culinary offerings at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai Qiantan provide a balance of tradition and innovation. Arame serves modern European cuisine made with local ingredients, while Fu Cheng, led by Michelin-starred chef Justin Yang, presents refined Min cuisine and bespoke off-menu creations.
For a more intimate experience, the Starlight Room offers a chef’s table with an open kitchen and sweeping river views. At Peacock Alley, inspired by the legendary New York lounge, guests can enjoy speciality teas, coffees and desserts in an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication.
Beyond its design and dining, the hotel features a space for restoration. The 25-metre indoor heated pool offers a sense of calm, with sunlight filtering through a skylight onto the marble surroundings.
A 24-hour fitness centre, private treatment rooms and access to riverside jogging trails make wellness an easy part of the stay. Guests can also take part in sunrise yoga or evening meditation by the water.
With it being close to the West Bund Art Museum, Tank Shanghai and the Long Museum, and adjacent to Qiantan Taikoo Li, the hotel brings together culture, lifestyle and wellbeing in one cohesive experience.
