Client data from JPMorgan Chase, Citi, Morgan Stanley and other leading US banks may have been accessed in a cyberattack targeting technology vendor SitusAMC, Reuters reported quoting the New York Times.
According to the report, citing people familiar with the incident, SitusAMC confirmed it was hit by a Nov 12 cyberattack, saying certain information from its systems was compromised and that data belonging to some clients’ customers “may also have been impacted”.
The company, however, did not name any affected financial institutions.
The vendor said the exposed data includes corporate documents, accounting records and legal contracts linked to client transactions.
CEO Michael Franco said the firm is still analysing potentially affected files and has notified law enforcement.
Meanwhile, FBI Director Kash Patel told the newspaper the agency is working with impacted organisations but has found no operational disruption to banking services so far.
SitusAMC said the breach has been contained, services remain fully operational and the attack did not involve encrypting malware.
JPMorgan Chase, Citi and Morgan Stanley have yet to comment on the incident.
