MSME Sellers On Shopee Generate Over US$270 Billion In Sales Since 2015

Shopee’s first decade has seen micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sellers on its platform generate more than US$270 billion in sales, according to its inaugural impact report released alongside a new regional documentary series marking the company’s 10th anniversary.

The data underscores how digital commerce has rapidly expanded economic opportunities for small businesses across Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Brazil.

The report details how MSMEs have increasingly shifted online since the platform’s 2015 launch, with seller participation doubling annually on average.

“Roughly 80% of MSMEs now operate outside capital cities, leveraging digital channels to reach national and regional customers,” Shopee said.

Additionally, the e-commerce platform also revealed that more than 7.6 million MSMEs have taken part in digital skills programmes as sellers adapt to a competitive and content-driven online marketplace.

“Livestream and video tools have become central to engagement, with orders through livestream features rising over 300% annually.

“Affiliate-driven sales have also grown, contributing to roughly 30% order increases for participating sellers,” it said.

Meanwhile, Shopee revealed that cross-border expansion remains a major driver of growth, with more than 2.1 million MSMEs joining the export programme to list products across Southeast Asian markets.
