aze continued to affect several parts of Malaysia on Wednesday morning, with 17 areas across six states and two Federal Territories recording unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am.
Based on data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Sri Aman in Sarawak recorded the highest API reading at 167, followed by the Serian District Police Headquarters at 166 and Samarahan at 162.
Selangor also saw five areas record unhealthy air quality, with Johan Setia and Shah Alam both registering an API reading of 158. Klang recorded 151, followed by Banting at 144 and Petaling Jaya at 123.
In Kuala Lumpur, Cheras recorded an API reading of 159 while Batu Muda stood at 152.
Negeri Sembilan also remained affected, with Nilai recording an API reading of 162 and Seremban at 158.
Five other areas recorded unhealthy readings, including Putrajaya at 159, Tangkak in Johor at 153, Bukit Rambai in Melaka at 143, Alor Gajah in Melaka at 128 and Taiping in Perak at 108.
The latest readings show the haze has spread across a wider area, although no location recorded air quality classified as very unhealthy or hazardous.
Meanwhile, 49 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality while two areas registered good air quality.
Under the API classification, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy and readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
API readings are updated hourly based on records from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
Residents, particularly children, the elderly and those with respiratory conditions, are advised to keep track of air quality levels and reduce prolonged outdoor exposure when readings deteriorate.
