Destini Berhad has appointed seasoned corporate and public sector leader Dato’ Sri Dr Shahril Mokhtar as its new Executive Director, effective 4 December 2025.
Dr Shahril, 53, brings three decades of leadership experience spanning human resource management, corporate strategy, public transport reform, mega-infrastructure development, and executive roles across multiple industries.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science from Universiti Utara Malaysia, a Master of Management from Universiti Malaya, and a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. He also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
Dr Shahril began his career at Maybank in 1995 before moving to PwC Malaysia, British American Tobacco (M) Berhad, and Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad, holding senior roles in human capital and management.
His entry into the public sector began in 2006 at RapidKL as General Manager of Corporate Planning. In 2009, he joined the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department as an advisor, contributing to the establishment of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).
He later became SPAD’s Chief Operating Officer in 2010, where he played a key role in transportation policy reforms. That same year, he joined Prasarana Malaysia Berhad as Group Managing Director, leading organisational turnaround efforts and overseeing major transport projects.
In 2015, Dr Shahril was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), steering the construction and delivery of MRT Line 1 and Line 2, two of Malaysia’s most significant rail infrastructure projects.
After leaving MRT Corp, he held top leadership roles in CSH Alliance Berhad, Sungai Kelang Expressway Sdn Bhd, and later Green Packet Berhad, where he served as Group Managing Director until his retirement in 2024.
Dr Shahril currently chairs West River Berhad and sits on the board of EVD Berhad, alongside directorships in various private companies. He was previously an Independent Director of Taghill Holdings Berhad.
He also serves as Chairman of UTM Holdings Sdn Bhd, the commercial arm of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
