The federal government has raised the mandatory e-invoicing threshold to RM1 million in annual revenue, giving relief to the country’s businesses ahead of the system’s rollout on Jan 1.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Cabinet approved the move on Dec 5, doubling the initial RM500,000 threshold to ensure micro and small enterprises are not burdened by compliance costs.
“This means that small companies no longer need to carry out e-invoicing,” Anwar said, noting that the adjustment responds to concerns raised by MSMEs seeking a smoother transition.
The announcement follows recent parliamentary discussions, where Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying said the Finance Ministry would evaluate calls to postpone e-invoicing for firms earning up to RM1 million.
