The Finance Ministry (MOF) is urging the public to be cautious of social media posts claiming that unpaid traffic summonses could affect fuel subsidy eligibility.
The ministry said the clarification was issued in response to an online rumour alleging that unpaid summonses would automatically disqualify motorists from receiving the fuel subsidy.
In a statement, transport minister Loke Siew Fook stressed that outstanding summonses and BUDI95 eligibility are “two separate mechanisms that operate independently” and are not automatically connected, contrary to rumours circulating online.
“To qualify or continue receiving BUDI95, applicants must meet only two basic criteria: they must be Malaysian citizens verified via MyKad, and they must hold an active driver’s licence either valid or expired for no more than three years,” he said.
The ministry also reminded road users to comply with traffic laws for public safety.
