Flood victims across Malaysia surged to 9,100 within 24 hours, up sharply from 2,463 recorded a day earlier, as worsening weather conditions forced more evacuations across 10 districts in five states, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).
As of 6am on Dec 18, 2,861 families have been relocated to 67 temporary evacuation centres (PPS), nearly tripling the number of centres opened from 25 centres on Dec 17.
Pahang remains the worst-hit state, with Kuantan recording 6,470 victims, followed by Maran (770)and Pekan (501), also in Pahang.
Separately, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) confirmed three flood-related deaths nationwide, involving incidents in Gua Musang, Kelantan (Nov 21), Tanah Merah, Kelantan (Nov 26) and Sepang, Selangor (Nov 30).
Authorities said rescue, relief and monitoring operations remain ongoing as the monsoon surge is expected to persist, raising the risk of further flooding.
