Heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong wind are expected across several states and federal territories until 12noon on Dec 19, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said.
Areas affected include Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, covering key districts such as Klang Valley, parts of northern Perak, Kuching, Samarahan, Sandakan and Kudat.
MetMalaysia said the alert is issued when thunderstorms are forecast to produce rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either imminent or persisting for more than an hour.
The warning is short-term, valid for up to six hours per update, as weather conditions are closely monitored.
The public is urged to stay alert, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to take extra caution when travelling or carrying out outdoor activities.
