The National Registration Department (NRD) has dismissed claims of MyKad misuse involving a deceased individual, following a viral social media post alleging that the identity had been used by a foreign national.
In a statement today, NRD said thorough checks confirmed that the two individuals mentioned in the post are Malaysian citizens, each holding different MyKad numbers.
“The checks found no evidence of identity misuse, unlawful issuance of identification documents or involvement of foreign nationals, as alleged,” the department said.
The viral post claimed that the MyKad number of the individual’s late father appeared under another name during a search on the eGUMiS portal, which is operated by the Unclaimed Moneys Division (BWTD) under the Accountant General’s Department.
NRD clarified that the MyKad number remains valid and registered under the deceased’s name, and said heirs may obtain official verification at any NRD office.
The department added that cross-checks had been conducted to ensure the accuracy of the information, and advised the complainant to refer directly to BWTD for verification and claims in line with established procedures.
NRD also urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information, warning that such actions could cause confusion and public concern.
