The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning, with heavy rain and strong winds expected across several states until 11.00am on Wednesday, Jan 7, 2026.
In Kelantan, the warning covers Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang, areas that are prone to flooding during periods of prolonged rainfall.
In Sarawak, affected areas include Kuching, Samarahan covering Samarahan and Asajaya as well as Mukah.
Other states under the alert are Kedah (Sik and Baling) and Perak (Hulu Perak).
MET Malaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, either imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
It added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert, valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
The public is advised to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to stay updated through official weather advisories.
