The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry (NRES) is set to complete its RM80.9 million Sabah Mini Complex by early 2029, Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup confirmed.
The minister said the construction on the 6.77ha site in Kepayang, near Kota Kinabalu International Airport, began late last year and it is expected to take about 40 months.
“The complex will consolidate four NRES departments, namely the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia, the Minerals and Geoscience Department (JMG), the Office of the Lands and Mines Director-General and the Malaysian Meteorological Department, which are currently scattered across rented offices in Kota Kinabalu.
“Hence, centralising these departments will streamline operations, reduce rental expenses and improve management efficiency,” he shared.
He highlighted that the planned facilities include a multipurpose hall, JMG laboratory, warehouses and management offices.
“The project will also feature green construction elements, aligning with the government’s commitment to sustainable building practices.
“This new complex will not only make our work easier but also mark a long-awaited step in establishing our own assets in Sabah,” Arthur said.
