Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), through their subsidiaries TNB Engineering Corporation (TNEC) and PKNS FM Integrated (PFMI), have formalised a strategic collaboration to develop and operate a District Cooling System in Seksyen 14, Shah Alam.
The project combines TNB’s engineering and energy infrastructure expertise with PKNS’ urban development portfolio, aiming to enhance energy efficiency and support sustainable urban growth.
The centralised cooling plant will supply chilled water to buildings owned or managed by PKNS and its affiliates, including Plaza Perangsang, Plaza Alam Sentral, SA Sentral, SACC Mall, PKNS Headquarters and Kompleks PKNS Shah Alam.
The system is also designed to accommodate future developments in the precinct, such as SA Sentral, a landmark project intended to establish Shah Alam as a leading business hub in Selangor.
TNEC Managing Director Ahmad Nizam Hassan and PFMI Chief Executive Officer Shamshul Bahari Ahmad signed the collaboration documents, with the ceremony witnessed by Selangor State Executive Councillor for Infrastructure and Agriculture Dato’ Ir. Izham Hashim, TNEC Chairman Ir. Mahathir Nor Ismail and PKNS Group CEO Dato’ Mahmud Abbas.
TNB President/CEO Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said the collaboration reflects TNB’s commitment to innovative energy solutions for smarter, future-ready cities.
“By combining TNB’s engineering expertise with PKNS’ strong urban development portfolio, we aim to set a new benchmark for integrated infrastructure that drives long-term value for communities, businesses and the environment,” he said.
Dato’ Mahmud Abbas added that the initiative aligns with the Selangor State Government’s push for sustainable, efficient infrastructure in high-density urban areas while enhancing PKNS’ long-term asset value through environmentally responsible technologies.
The collaboration underscores TNB’s focus on advancing sustainable urban development and supporting Selangor’s transition to low-carbon, energy-efficient cities.
