Former Top Judge Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad Dies At 83

Former Chief Justice of Malaysia, Tun Dato’ Seri Abdul Hamid Mohamad, has passed away at the age of 83.

His daughter confirmed that he died at Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia at noon today. He had been admitted to the hospital on Feb 9 and passed away due to age-related illness, surrounded by his wife and children.

Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at Musolla Taman Selatan, Precinct 20, Putrajaya after Asar prayers, followed by burial at the Putrajaya Islamic Cemetery in Precinct 20.

Abdul Hamid served as Chief Justice from December 2007 to October 2008. Over a judicial career spanning more than three decades, he was appointed Judicial Commissioner on May 1, 1990, elevated to High Court judge in 1992, appointed Court of Appeal judge on Sept 1, 2000, and later Federal Court judge on Aug 1, 2003, before assuming the nation’s top judicial post.

His passing marks the end of a distinguished career in Malaysia’s judiciary.
