A Malaysia Airlines flight bound for Doha made a mid-air U-turn on Feb 27, 2026, following heightened airspace risk concerns, the carrier confirmed.
Flight MH160 operating from Kuala Lumpur to Doha turned back to Kuala Lumpur, while MH156 from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah was diverted to Chennai after receiving a mid-flight advisory on escalating conflict-area risks.
The airline said the decisions were made in line with established conflict-area diversion protocols to ensure passenger and crew safety. Both flights have since landed safely at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
“Affected passengers were assisted with alternative flight arrangements and hotel accommodation, where required,” the airline said in a statement.
Malaysia Airlines added that it is closely monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to maintain safe and reliable operations, stressing that safety remains its top priority.
