Ahead of its 2026 opening, Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur is positioning itself as the city’s next culinary hotspot. The hotel has brought in two global heavyweights—Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten—combining international expertise with a nod to Malaysia’s vibrant food culture.
Garima Arora, chef-owner of Bangkok’s two-Michelin-starred Restaurant Gaa, is introducing Yaari, a modern Indian restaurant named for the Hindi word for “friendship.” Arora, the first Indian woman to lead a Michelin-starred kitchen, reworks regional classics while elevating street-food favourites like chaats and mithai-inspired desserts.
The restaurant blends warmth and playful touches, honouring heritage while keeping a contemporary edge. “Yaari celebrates Indian diversity in authentic yet contemporary ways,” she says.
French culinary icon Jean-Georges Vongerichten will launch three concepts at the hotel: JG KL, abc kitchens KL, and The Bar by JG. JG KL offers precise, seasonal dishes that fuse French, American, and Asian influences. abc kitchens KL combines farm-to-table, plant-forward, and Latin-inspired flavours in a relaxed, botanical setting.
The Bar by JG offers approachable small plates and shareable dishes, complemented by a carefully curated drinks menu that balances French polish with Southeast Asian energy. Vongerichten views Malaysia’s rich food culture as the perfect canvas for putting a refined twist on familiar flavours.
Additional dining venues will be revealed ahead of the hotel’s late-2026 opening, further establishing its place on Southeast Asia’s gastronomic map.
