Higher Number Of SPM Students Pass In 2025 While Over 7,000 Fail To Sit For Exam

The results of the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination recorded an improvement, with the national average grade (GPN) rising to 4.42 points, compared with 4.49 in 2024, according to the Ministry of Education Malaysia. 366,435 candidates eligible to receive SPM certificates against 355,933 in 2024, it was reported 7,099 candidates did not sit for the exam.

The improvement indicates better overall student performance, as a lower GPN reflects stronger academic achievement in the national examination.

The ministry said the number of candidates eligible to receive the SPM certificate also increased, reflecting improved pass rates across key subjects.

The results highlight continued recovery and strengthening in academic outcomes following disruptions in previous years, with efforts to enhance teaching quality and student support showing positive impact.

Education authorities noted that the performance improvement aligns with ongoing initiatives to uplift student achievement nationwide, including targeted interventions for weaker subjects and expanded access to learning resources.

The SPM examination remains a key benchmark in Malaysia’s education system, serving as a gateway for further studies and entry into the workforce.

Further details on subject-level performance and top achievers are expected to be released by the ministry in subsequent briefings.
