Malaysia Tops Southeast Asia In Investment Ranking, Ranked 23rd Globally

Malaysia has reinforced its position as a leading investment destination in Southeast Asia, ranking 23rd globally and emerging as the top-performing economy among selected regional markets in the 2026 Global Opportunity Index (GOI).

The report by Milken Institute highlights Malaysia’s strong and balanced investment ecosystem, supported by sound economic fundamentals, a robust institutional framework and a well-developed financial sector.

Among six Southeast Asian economies assessed which includes Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, the Philippines and Vietnam— Malaysia recorded the highest overall score, reflecting consistent policy direction and structural resilience.

Malaysia also performed strongly in key pillars, ranking 17th globally in financial services and 18th in business perception, underscoring continued improvements in regulatory quality, market depth and the overall ease of doing business.

The findings come amid heightened global volatility and geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, with Malaysia’s diversified economy and policy stability helping to sustain investor confidence and differentiate it from regional peers.

In a statement by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, the government is expected to continue advancing reforms and national frameworks to strengthen Malaysia’s investment ecosystem, focusing on innovation, digitalisation and sustainable growth, while reinforcing its role as a key gateway for regional and global investments.
