Petrol And Diesel Prices Rise Amid West Asia Energy Crisis

Petrol and diesel prices will rise this week following continued volatility in global oil markets driven by the West Asia energy crisis, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said.

Under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), RON97 will be sold at RM5.35 per litre, up from RM4.95, while RON95 rises to RM4.27 per litre, from RM3.87. Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will cost RM6.72 per litre, compared with RM6.02 previously.

MOF said the current prices reflect average crude oil costs from the past five weeks, when global prices peaked at around US$150 per barrel for petrol and US$250 per barrel for diesel, despite a temporary decline following the ceasefire in the Iran conflict.

The ministry explained that daily fluctuations in global oil do not immediately translate to retail prices, as domestic pricing is calculated weekly.

The government continues to implement targeted subsidies for certain groups, including BUDI95 at RM1.99 per litre and diesel in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan at RM2.15 per litre, with BUDI95 eligibility capped at 200 litres per month.

MOF said it will continue to monitor global energy developments closely to ensure national supply stability, while balancing fiscal responsibility and public welfare.
