K-Beauty Cult Favourite Lands In Malaysia And It’s All About Gentle Skin Healing

Guardian Malaysia has introduced cult-favourite Korean skincare brand Pyunkang Yul to its nationwide stores, marking its official entry into the Malaysian offline retail market as demand for gentle, skin-barrier-focused products continues to rise.

Developed by Pyunkang Korean Medicine Clinic, a practice with over 50 years of experience treating atopic and sensitive skin conditions, the brand is known for minimalist formulations that focus on restoring skin balance rather than layering complex ingredients.

For its Malaysian debut, Guardian is rolling out two of Pyunkang Yul’s best-selling ranges, the Calming line and the Barrier line, both designed to address increasingly common skin concerns among urban consumers.

The Calming line

The Calming line targets sensitive and acne-prone skin using herbal-based formulations aimed at reducing irritation while maintaining oil and moisture balance. Products include the Calming Barrier Cream, Deep Moisture Toner, Low pH Foaming Cleanser, Moisture Serum, Pore Clear Wash Off Pack and Sun Cream.

The Barrier line focuses on strengthening the skin’s natural protective layer and supporting long-term hydration, making it suitable for dry and sensitive skin types. Its range includes the Essence Toner, Moisturising Essence Mask Pack, Deep Clear Cleansing Balm, Moisture Cream, Moisture Serum and Airy Protection Sun Stick.

Eric Kim, chief executive officer of Pyunkang Korean Medicine Skin Laboratory, said Malaysia is a key strategic market for the brand as it expands across Southeast Asia. He said the move into physical retail is an important step in bringing the brand closer to consumers beyond digital channels.

He added that demand for gentle yet effective skincare is rising globally, particularly among those with sensitive skin, and Pyunkang Yul’s approach rooted in traditional Korean medicine positions it well for this shift.

The barrier line

Kihwan Seong, chief executive officer of ByPlay Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the local distributor, said Malaysian consumers are increasingly prioritising ingredient-conscious skincare that supports skin health in the long term.

Stephy Siew, head of department for skincare at Guardian Malaysia, said the brand fits into the retailer’s push to offer trusted and effective beauty solutions as consumers move towards simpler and more skin-friendly routines.

First launched in 2016, Pyunkang Yul has grown rapidly from a niche Korean brand into a global name, now available in more than 130 countries with total sales exceeding US$47 million.
