Two To Face Charges In MACC’s RM1.1 Billion Semicon Firm Probe

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified two individuals to be recommended for prosecution in connection with its investigation into the government’s RM1.1 billion agreement with British semiconductor giant Arm Holdings Inc.

Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki declined to confirm whether the individuals are former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and his former aide James Chai.

Azam made the disclosure at the same MACC headquarters press conference held Wednesday to showcase the return of 1MDB-linked artworks in Putrajaya.

“We will recommend two individuals for prosecution. However, the final decision rests with the prosecution team after examining all available evidence and testimony,” Azam said.

“If the evidence fulfils the elements of the offence, charges will be filed. If not, a decision will be announced in the usual manner. I do not wish to speculate on the identity of the individuals involved until an official decision is made,” he added.

Azam confirmed that 22 individuals have so far had their statements recorded in connection with the investigation, including Rafizi Ramli.

MACC expects to call two more witnesses to complete the investigation — one based in Taiwan and another in Malaysia.
