IKEA Malaysia has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for selling the most curry puffs in a year, achieving an impressive 8.6 million units nationwide.
This significant achievement underscores the increasing integration of a simple snack into the daily lives of Malaysians.
What began as a quick bite has evolved into a familiar ritual for many, whether after shopping or during shared moments with family and friends. The curry puff has grown into a small but consistent part of the broader IKEA experience over the past three decades in Malaysia.
Malcolm Pruys, Country Retail Director of IKEA Malaysia, said the recognition goes beyond numbers.
“This recognition is not just about the number. It is about the millions of moments behind it,” he said, adding that food plays a central role in how Malaysians connect and spend time together.
Raymand Yeastman, IKEA Malaysia Food Manager, said the achievement reflects how simple offerings can resonate across generations.
“Our curry puffs are a familiar favourite, and this milestone shows how something simple can bring people together across generations,” he said.
To mark the achievement, IKEA Malaysia has launched the #IKEAripapYourWay campaign, inviting Malaysians to creatively reinterpret the idea of “records” using its curry puffs. The initiative aims to turn the national milestone into thousands of personal and playful celebrations.
As part of the celebration, 500 curry puffs were given away across four stores on 8 May, reinforcing the brand’s focus on shared experiences and everyday moments.
The milestone also comes as IKEA Malaysia marks its 30th anniversary, continuing its emphasis on creating accessible and meaningful experiences beyond home furnishing, extending into food and community moments.
