Malaysians across several states are expected to face thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds this afternoon, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issuing a weather warning valid until 4pm today.
The affected areas include Perlis, Kedah and Penang, as well as several districts in Perak namely Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.
In the east coast, the warning covers Tumpat, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah in Kelantan, while in Pahang, the affected areas are Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub and Bentong.
In the Klang Valley, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat are expected to experience stormy weather, alongside Kuala Lumpur.
MetMalaysia also forecast similar conditions in Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, as well as several Johor districts including Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.
The department said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for a period of not more than six hours for each issuance.
