The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several northern states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 12pm on May 12.
Affected areas include Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi), as well as parts of Perak covering Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Bagan Datuk and Batang Padang. Gua Musang in Kelantan is also under alert.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when signs indicate thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
