Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for multiple states nationwide, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until 5pm on May 12.
The affected areas in Kedah include Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu, while Penang will see adverse weather conditions across North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai and South Seberang Perai.
In Perak, the warning covers Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.
Kelantan areas affected are Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang, while in Terengganu, the warning involves Besut, Setiu, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Kemaman.
In Pahang, thunderstorms are expected in Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Maran and Rompin.
The warning also covers Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat in Selangor, as well as Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin in Negeri Sembilan. Johor is also expected to experience similar weather conditions.
In Sarawak, affected areas include Lubok Antu in Sri Aman, Pakan and Julau in Sarikei, Kanowit in Sibu, Song in Kapit, Miri and Marudi in Miri, as well as Limbang.
Meanwhile in Sabah, the warning covers Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Nabawan, Keningau and Tambunan in the Interior, alongside Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud on the West Coast. Tawau, Kunak and Kudat are also affected.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
