The world of “The Big Bang Theory” is now blending sci-fi with sitcom. HBO Max just unveiled the first teaser trailer for the “Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Stuart Fails to Save the Universe”.

The latest entry in the franchise, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, joins other Big Bang Theory series, including Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First MarriageYoung Sheldon ended in 2024, and season 2 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is set to wrap up this May but is has been renewed for a third season.

The teaser was released during the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Monday. The series is expecting to stream on the platform this coming summer.

Aiding his quest are his girlfriend Denise (Lauren Lapkus), geologist friend Bert (Brian Posehn), and quantum physicist/all-around pain in the ass Barry Kripke (John Ross Bowie). They also encounter “alternative-universe versions” of Big Bang Theory characters, which means that other actors from the sitcom could potentially make an appearance.

In a July 2025 interview with TV Line, when Big Bang Theory franchise co-creator Chuck Lorre was asked if Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki — who played Sheldon and Leonard on the flagship series — would be reprising their characters for Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Lorre said, “I cannot speak to that.”

“That is a closely guarded piece of information that, you know,” he teased. “I’ve taken a blood oath regarding.” However, Emmy®-winner, GRAMMY®-winner, and Oscar®-nominee Danny Elfman will be creating the original theme music for the series.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will debut in July 2026 on HBO Max, but an exact premiere date has not been announced. But expect the same laughs from the original series.
