Travelling across Asia could soon feel more connected, from the moment you start planning a trip to the moment you pay for it. That’s the idea behind a new partnership between Trip.com Group and Visa, aimed at making the entire travel process simpler and more personalised for users.
The collaboration links the travel platform with Visa’s global payment network. For travellers, this translates into more tailored recommendations, destination-based offers, and smoother transactions whether booking locally or overseas.
A key part of the deal also involves access to curated travel experiences based on local culture and insights. These will be built into the travel platform’s ecosystem, alongside joint campaigns in selected markets, including Malaysia.
There is also a growing focus on lifestyle-driven travel. Selected premium cardholders will get access to travel deals through the platform. Furthermore, users will be able to tap into wider lifestyle partnerships spanning sports, music, and entertainment.
Both sides are also looking at ways to support growing travel between Mainland China and other parts of the Asia Pacific.
The timing reflects how people are travelling now. A recent regional study shows most travellers in Asia plan to travel within the region soon, rely heavily on digital payments, and increasingly plan trips online. Nearly half are now using AI tools to help decide where to go.
In Malaysia, travel demand continues to climb. Domestic hotel and attraction bookings surged strongly over the Labour Day period, while outbound flights also saw solid growth. Short- and medium-haul destinations dominate, suggesting many travellers are opting for nearby, budget-friendly trips that are easier to plan.
Executives behind the collaboration say the goal is to better match how people already travel — starting with digital discovery, moving quickly through booking, and leaning more on personalised experiences rather than standardised travel packages.
