China has called for continued diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, stressing that ongoing talks must not be derailed and warning against any return to the use of force.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a phone conversation on Tuesday with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, according to Chinese state media.
Wang said the current situation surrounding the U.S.-Iran discussions required all parties to remain committed to dialogue and avoid escalation.
“There must be no turning back, still less a return to the use of force,” Wang said, highlighting Beijing’s position that diplomatic efforts remain the only viable path towards resolving disputes.
The Chinese foreign minister said China supports efforts that contribute to regional peace and stability, adding that Beijing hopes relevant parties can demonstrate flexibility and build conditions for a negotiated settlement.
The remarks came amid heightened tensions involving Iran and the United States, with concerns growing over the potential impact on regional security, energy markets and global supply chains.
China has repeatedly advocated for resolving international disputes through dialogue and has opposed unilateral actions or military pressure. Beijing has also maintained close diplomatic and economic ties with Tehran while calling for stability in the Middle East.
During the call, Wang and Dar also discussed broader regional issues and bilateral cooperation, with both sides reaffirming the importance of maintaining communication amid growing geopolitical uncertainties.
Pakistan has previously played a role in facilitating diplomatic channels between major powers and regional actors, positioning itself as a supporter of dialogue-based solutions to international conflicts.
Analysts said China’s latest statement reflects Beijing’s broader diplomatic push to prevent further instability in the Middle East, particularly given the region’s importance to global energy supplies and trade routes.
