The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving several states nationwide, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 7pm today.MetMalaysia said the affected areas are Terengganu (Setiu, Hulu Terengganu and Dungun), Pahang (Bentong, Kuantan and Pekan), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu) and Johor (Johor Bahru).
The warning also covers several areas in Sarawak, namely Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
In Sabah, the affected areas include the Interior, West Coast, Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat, as well as Labuan.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
