Several areas in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan are expected to experience showers despite generally clear weather conditions forecast until noon today.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the affected areas in Sabah include the Interior division covering Kuala Penyu and Beaufort, the West Coast involving Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud, as well as Kudat division covering Kota Marudu and Kudat.
The warning is issued when there are signs indicating thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for a period of not more than six hours for each issuance.
