Several states across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 9pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In Perak, the affected areas are Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar and Batang Padang.
Kelantan is expected to see adverse weather conditions in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai, while Besut in Terengganu is also under warning.
In Pahang, the warning covers Bentong, Bera and Rompin. Selangor areas affected include Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang, alongside the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
MetMalaysia also issued warnings for Jelebu and Jempol in Negeri Sembilan, as well as Segamat, Kluang and Mersing in Johor.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Samarahan (Samarahan and Asajaya), Sibu (Kanowit and Selangau), Mukah (Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu) and Miri (Subis, Beluru and Marudi).
Meanwhile, in Sabah, affected areas include Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Ranau in the West Coast division, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan in the Sandakan division, as well as Pitas in Kudat.
MetMalaysia said the warning is triggered when thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
Such warnings are short-term in nature and remain valid for a maximum of six hours from the time of issuance.
