KPJ Perdana Specialist Hospital has broken ground on a new hospital facility in Kota Bharu that will more than double its capacity to over 300 beds by 2030 as demand for specialist healthcare services continues to rise in the East Coast region.
The expansion, undertaken under the KPJ Health System, will strengthen access to oncology, critical care and advanced medical treatments in Kelantan while reducing the need for patients to seek specialised care outside the state.
Upon completion, the facility will house more than 80 specialist consultation suites, additional operating theatres, intensive care units, dialysis services, day care facilities and a dedicated oncology unit equipped with radiotherapy capabilities.
KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Haji Bakar said the project reflects the group’s commitment to supporting long-term healthcare development and expanding treatment capacity in Kelantan and the wider East Coast region.
Meanwhile, KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said growing demand for oncology and specialised treatment services underscores the need to expand healthcare capacity and strengthen access to comprehensive care closer to home.
The new facility will also feature Smart Ward capabilities and energy-efficient infrastructure as part of the group’s digitalisation and sustainability efforts.
Established in 2002, KPJ Perdana currently operates a 151-bed specialist hospital offering cardiology, orthopaedic, paediatric and surgical services.
