Nestlé, MPI Lead Decliners As Selling Pressure Weighs On Stock Movement

Shares of Nestlé (M) Bhd and Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) led losses on Bursa Malaysia on June 5 as broader market sentiment remained weak, with decliners comfortably outpacing gainers despite support from selected plantation and banking stocks.

Market breadth stayed negative, with 666 losers versus 477 gainers, while 574 counters were unchanged, 958 untraded and 12 suspended.

Consumer giant Nestlé topped the decliners list, falling 84 sen to RM94.28, followed by MPI, which slid 64 sen to RM46.80. Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd lost 48 sen to RM26.40, while Kelington Group Bhd and Sunway Construction Group Bhd shed 25 sen each to close at RM7.65 and RM7.25 respectively.

The selling pressure contrasted with gains in several heavyweight counters. Plantation stock United Plantations Bhd emerged as the day’s biggest gainer, rising 90 sen to RM32.20, while Concrete Engineering Products Bhd jumped 69 sen to RM3.34.

Among blue chips, Petronas Dagangan Bhd advanced 46 sen to RM19.24, Hong Leong Bank Bhd gained 34 sen to RM21.32 and Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd added 30 sen to RM18.84.

The mixed performance highlights continued selective buying in defensive and plantation-linked counters, although broader investor sentiment remained cautious amid ongoing profit-taking across the market.
