Traffic Builds On Major Highways As Holidaymakers Head Back To KL

Traffic on several major highways leading towards Kuala Lumpur slowed this afternoon as Malaysians returned home following the end of the mid-year school holidays and a series of recent public holidays.

The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said traffic volume had increased from as early as 2pm, although overall conditions remained manageable with no reports of major accidents or extraordinary congestion.

On the North-South Expressway (PLUS) E1 southbound, traffic was moving slowly between Seberang Jaya and Prai, as well as from Bandar Cassia to Jawi.

Meanwhile, on the E2 route, motorists experienced slower traffic from Senawang to Port Dickson and after the Sungai Besi Toll Plaza heading towards Kuala Lumpur city centre.

The Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) also recorded slow-moving traffic towards the capital, particularly from Gambang to Sri Jaya and from Lentang to Bukit Tinggi.

To ease congestion, highway operators activated Smart Lane emergency lanes at several strategic locations to improve traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks.

In contrast, traffic leaving Kuala Lumpur towards the northern and southern regions remained smooth and uninterrupted.

Motorists have been urged to drive cautiously and follow instructions issued by highway authorities throughout their journey.
