Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd announced that Group Chief Executive Officer Euan Daryl Smith has stepped down from his role effective June 7, with former CEO Henry Tan Poh Hock set to return as interim Group Chief Executive Officer from June 16.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, Astro said Smith, 58, will continue to provide technical advisory assistance and support to the board until Dec 6, 2026 to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

The media and entertainment group has appointed Henry Tan, 63, as interim Group Chief Executive Officer. Prior to Astro, Tan served as Chief Executive Officer of Mindshare Malaysia and GroupM Malaysia and Singapore. He also held senior roles at Ogilvy & Mather and HVD Entertainment.

Astro noted that Tan currently serves as chairman of TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, which is a substantial shareholder of Astro. The company said recurring transactions between the Astro and TGV groups are conducted at arm’s length.
