The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Perak, Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan until 11am today.
Affected areas in Perak include Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak, while Sabak Bernam in Selangor is also expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah and Kapit, while in Sabah, Kuala Penyu in the Interior Division is affected.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The weather alert is a short-term warning and remains valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time it is issued.
The public is advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
