Several areas across Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Johor are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 12 noon today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The weather agency said the affected areas in Kedah include Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda, while in Johor, the warning covers Tangkak, Muar and Batu Pahat.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued following indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, with conditions expected to persist for more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for a period of up to six hours from the time of issuance.
The public is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flash floods and during outdoor activities.
