Residents across large parts of Malaysia have been placed on alert after a thunderstorm warning was issued for multiple states in both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) released the warning at 3:05 pm today, forecasting thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 6 pm.
Areas affected in Peninsular Malaysia include Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, with numerous districts expected to experience adverse weather conditions.
Among the locations under the warning are Kuala Muda, Baling and Kulim in Kedah; Kerian, Kinta and Kampar in Perak; as well as several districts across Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
The alert also extends to the Klang Valley, where Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat, together with Kuala Lumpur, could see periods of intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
Further south, much of Johor is also affected, including Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru. The widespread coverage highlights the extent of the weather system moving across the peninsula during the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the warning stretches into East Malaysia, covering parts of Sarawak and Sabah. In Sarawak, the affected areas include Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang, while in Sabah the alert encompasses the Interior and West Coast divisions, as well as parts of Sandakan and Kudat. The Federal Territory of Labuan is also included in the warning.
MetMalaysia has advised the public to stay updated on the latest weather developments and to exercise caution during periods of thunderstorms, particularly in areas prone to flash floods, strong winds and reduced visibility.
