Playing their first World Cup finals match on home soil, the co-hosts ended a six-game losing streak at the tournament thanks to a late equaliser from Cyle Larin, who struck in the 78th minute to secure a historic result.
Bosnia took the lead midway through the first half when Jovo Lukic scored from a corner, silencing a largely pro-Canada crowd while sparking celebrations among the travelling Bosnian supporters.
Canada dominated possession and created the better chances throughout the match but struggled to convert. Jonathan David and Ismael Kone both went close before the break, while veteran Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac produced a crucial goal-line intervention in the second half.
The breakthrough finally arrived when Larin found the net, triggering jubilant celebrations among the home fans, including Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Mike Myers in attendance.
Canada pushed for a winner in the closing stages but had to settle for a draw that delivered a landmark moment for the national team.
The hosts will next face Qatar in Vancouver on June 18 as they look to build on their historic first World Cup point.
