The government has agreed to continue the Media Innovation Fund to support local media organisations in strengthening operations and accelerating digital transformation efforts, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
Anwar said the government had previously allocated RM30 million for the fund, which was unveiled during last year’s National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) Summit.
To date, 72 media companies have received a total of RM24.57 million in funding under the initiative.
“We have provided the allocation and, as far as possible, the fund should be fully utilised. We will also top it up to ensure the fund is not disrupted or depleted.
“This is good news for us. Continue doing good work,” he said.
The Media Innovation Fund was established to support the transformation of the media industry through innovative projects covering content development, media technology and digital strategies.
The fund also focuses on training media practitioners, producing creative and interactive content, and strengthening the delivery of accurate and relevant information to the public.
