Meta has acknowledged missteps in its ongoing artificial intelligence (AI)-driven workforce transformation, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg warning employees that the company’s rapid restructuring has led to errors amid its aggressive push into AI.
According to Reuters, Zuckerberg said in an internal memo that the scale and speed of Meta’s AI overhaul, backed by hundreds of billions of dollars in investment, have created complexity that has resulted in mistakes, with more likely as the transition continues.
“Given the complexity of these changes, we’ve made mistakes and will almost certainly make more,” he wrote, while stressing the need to maintain stability during ongoing organisational adjustments.
The comments come as Meta continues a sweeping restructuring that included a 10% global workforce reduction and the reassignment of about 7,000 employees into AI-focused roles following a major overhaul in May.
Zuckerberg said the company aims to reassign workers into new AI-related positions while avoiding further company-wide layoffs this year.
He also pointed to concerns over internal organisational design, including expanded managerial responsibilities in some AI units, and said Meta plans to scale back excessive layers of management.
Despite the turbulence, Meta is continuing to ramp up AI investment and internal development initiatives, including expanded budgets for team offsites and a large-scale hackathon to accelerate collaboration on its latest models.
