Residents in Penang and parts of Perak are advised to brace for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until 1pm today, according to the latest weather alert issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
The affected area in Perak is Kerian district.
MET Malaysia said the warning was issued following indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour that are either imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories and remain valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance.
