Thunderstorms To Hit KL Until 5pm, Traffic Congestion Likely

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected across large parts of the country until 5pm today, with weather warnings issued for Perlis, Kedah, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.

According to MET Malaysia, the affected areas in Kedah are Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena.

In Terengganu, the warning covers Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun, while in Pahang, the affected districts are Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Rompin.

For Selangor, thunderstorms are forecast in Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat, while Kuala Lumpur is also under alert.

The warning in Negeri Sembilan covers Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin.

Johor faces one of the widest weather alerts, affecting Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru.

In Sarawak, the affected areas are Sri Aman (Sri Aman), Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu (Tatau and Bintulu), Miri (Subis and Marudi) and Limbang.

Meanwhile, in Sabah, thunderstorms are expected in the Interior Division covering Keningau and Tambunan, the West Coast Division, Tawau Division covering Tawau, Kunak and Lahad Datu, as well as Sandakan Division covering Sandakan.

MET Malaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance.
