Haze Pushes 38 Malaysian Areas Into Unhealthy Air Quality, Seremban Worst Hit

A total of 38 areas across Malaysia recorded unhealthy air quality readings as of Friday morning, with Seremban in Negeri Sembilan registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) at 187, per Astro Awani.

Data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed several locations in Negeri Sembilan and Johor among the worst affected. Nilai recorded an API reading of 184, while Port Dickson stood at 173. In Johor, Segamat recorded 183, followed by Tangkak at 180 and Pasir Gudang at 176.

Melaka also recorded elevated readings, with Melaka City and Bukit Rambai both at 182, while Alor Gajah registered 177.

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded an API reading of 182, followed by Shah Alam at 177. Petaling Jaya and Klang registered 169 and 168, respectively, while Banting also recorded 168.

Kuala Lumpur was affected as well, with Batu Muda recording 172 and Cheras at 170. Putrajaya registered 171.

In Perak, Tasek Ipoh recorded 174, followed by Tanjung Malim at 171 and Pegoh Ipoh at 169. Meanwhile, Rompin in Pahang registered 170, while Indera Mahkota in Kuantan recorded 162.

Other affected areas included Sungai Petani and Alor Setar in Kedah, with readings of 157 and 151, respectively. In Penang, Minden recorded 153, Seberang Jaya 151 and Seberang Perai 122. Kemaman in Terengganu registered 154.

However, monitoring stations across Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, Kelantan and parts of Terengganu continued to record moderate API levels.

Under APIMS classifications, readings between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy, while readings from 51 to 100 are classified as moderate.

Members of the public, particularly children, older people and those with respiratory conditions, are advised to reduce outdoor activities and take appropriate precautions while the haze persists.
