Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim posted that Austrian semiconductor company AT&S plans to expand its operations in Kulim, Kedah; the development followed discussions held in early June.
He said the investment would further strengthen the country’s semiconductor ecosystem while creating opportunities for high-skilled employment among Malaysians.
“The confidence shown by international investors such as AT&S proves that clear policies, political stability, good governance and the government’s commitment towards driving economic transformation are placing Malaysia on the right path as a leading destination for advanced technology investments and a new regional growth centre,” Anwar said in a statement.
The Prime Minister added that the expansion reflects growing investor confidence in Malaysia’s ability to support the development of advanced industries, particularly within the digital economy and semiconductor value chain.
The investment is expected to contribute towards strengthening Malaysia’s semiconductor capabilities, particularly in higher-value activities, while supporting the country’s ambition to move further up the global technology supply chain.
AT&S, a global manufacturer of high-end printed circuit boards and advanced packaging solutions, has established operations in Kulim, Kedah, as part of Malaysia’s growing semiconductor and electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem.
The expansion is expected to further enhance Kulim’s role as a strategic technology manufacturing hub, alongside attracting more investments into Malaysia’s advanced manufacturing sector.
