MRL Says Viral ECRL Fare Not Accurate As Pricing Yet To Be Fixed

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) has clarified that the official fare rates for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) service have yet to be announced.

MRL said any fare rates currently circulating on social media are merely speculation and do not represent the actual fares that will be charged when the ECRL begins operations in January 2027.

The company said the ECRL fare structure is currently being reviewed and refined with relevant stakeholders, including the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), to ensure the fares remain affordable, competitive and user-friendly.

“This is in line with the objective of providing a quality public transport service that benefits the people,” MRL said in a statement.

The public has been advised not to make assumptions or draw conclusions based on unverified information, with the official fare announcement to be made by the Ministry of Transport Malaysia once the evaluation and approval process has been completed.

The company said the final fare structure will take into consideration the interests of the public while providing the best value for passengers.

The 665-kilometre ECRL route will connect the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang before linking to Selangor on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Upon commencement of operations, the ECRL is expected to significantly reduce travel time, with journeys between Kota Bharu and Gombak projected to take around four hours compared with approximately seven hours by road.
