The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has expanded its thunderstorm and heavy rain warning to cover several additional states across Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia, with conditions expected to persist until 7pm today.
In an alert issued at 3.40pm on Tuesday, 17 June 2026, MetMalaysia said the weather warning covers Kedah, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor as well as parts of Sarawak and Sabah.
In Kedah, the affected areas include Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik and Baling, while in Perak the warning is focused on Hulu Perak.
In Kelantan, all major districts including Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai are under the alert.
Terengganu is also included in the warning zone.
In Pahang, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin are expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain during the warning period, while in Johor the alert remains in place for affected districts earlier identified.
Over in East Malaysia, MetMalaysia said several areas in Sarawak are affected, including Betong (Saratok and Kabong), Miri and Limbang.
In Sabah, the warning covers the Interior Division, including Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau and Tambunan, as well as the West Coast, Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan) and Kudat.
MetMalaysia advised the public to remain cautious, avoid outdoor activities where possible and stay updated with the latest weather information through official channels.
